Providing Shelter & Sustenance
Each year, church congregations from throughout Warren County work together to shelter homeless persons from the cold. Hundreds of congregational volunteers work together to provide shelter and sustenance for more than 100 guests, while Warming Shelter Volunteers, Community Partners and Room in the Inn BG staff work together to connect these persons to needed services, resources and employment to enable them to achieve permanent and sustainable housing.

RITI partners with area congregations to provide overnight winter shelter during the coldest months of the year to those who call the streets of Bowling Green home.
Huge thank you to our Inn Crowd. These congregations are hosting our guests this season. They provide a warm bed, hot meals and the love of Jesus.

FACTS
Our main shelter in Bowling Green is often stretched beyond capacity. To deal with overcrowding, guests usually are only allowed one extended stay per year. The few spaces for families fill quickly in the winter months and women’s beds are also at a premium. Room in the Inn Bowling Green was established to assist those that cannot stay at our permanent year-round shelter.
Last year we served 120 guests, including single men and women, couples, families with children. Our youngest guest was two years of age and the oldest was nearly seventy. We had guests with minimal education and college graduates. Some of our guests had previously had considerable experience in business. Many of our guests are already employed but are unable to earn enough to afford an apartment on minimum wage jobs.
We are strictly a volunteer organization and are funded by donations and our community partners. We need approximately $25,000 per year to fund our program.
This year, we hope to increase our capacity by having two congregational spaces available each night during the months of January and February. We can currently shelter between 12 and 25 guests per night and have had to turn people away in extreme conditions in past years. We hope that by adding more congregations, we can truly be able to offer shelter to everyone that needs it on the worst of nights.
We work with guests to connect them to necessary programs, employment and services to help them achieve the necessary skills and stability to achieve permanent housing. We do this by forging and maintaining numerous community partnerships to offer supports both at our Room in the Inn Bowling Green warming shelter and in offices throughout the community.
